In its native habitat, the Rio Negro and its tributaries in Brazil, Ivanacara adoketa inhabits calm, soft blackwater areas with roots, leaves, and fine substrate. These conditions can easily be replicated in an aquarium. Despite its robust appearance, the Zebra Acara is a peaceful cichlid that can be easily kept with other calm fish.
