Zaire pike (Polypterus delhezi)

The Zaire bichir, also known as the marbled bichir, originates from the Congo Basin and is one of the most attractive species of its genus. Its grey to olive-green body is adorned with striking dark bands and marbled patterns. Like all bichirs, it is a peaceful bottom dweller, mostly active at dusk and at night.

Care instructions:

• Size: Up to approx. 35 cm

• Water parameters: Temperature 2428 C, pH 6.57.5

• Diet: Meaty pieces of fish, shrimp, mussel meat, frozen or live food

• Behavior: Calm, territorial towards conspecifics, eats smaller fish

Instructions for keeping the animal:

• Minimum edge length of the aquarium: approx. 150 cm

• Aquarium with sandy bottom, roots and rock formations for cover

• Cover the aquarium well it’s very prone to jumping.

• Can be kept with larger, peaceful fish.

Size upon delivery: 10-15cm.
